The Islamic Society of Mobile, Inc. was founded in 1985 in Mobile, AL by a few families in an apartment building. In 1987, the Islamic Society, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit 501 (c)(3) religious corporation dedicated to providing religious, educational and social services to the Muslims of Mobile and the surrounding area.
In 1990 an old building was purchased at 63 East Drive and was renovated to facilitate the religious needs of the small Muslim community. The Muslim population has been steadily growing over the past years from a few families into a diverse Muslim community of close to 200 families. The current facilities have become too small to serve the community.
At the end of 1998, the Islamic Society of Mobile purchased two adjacent houses, renovated them and licensed them to be used as a full-time school that started in 1999. The school currently serves around 80 students. They learn Quran, Islamic Studies and the Arabic Language in addition to the core curriculum.
